How much will it cost to repair my air conditioning?

This is a common question, but unfortunately we are not able to tell you until we know the cause of the problem and what is involved in the repair.  We can diagnosis the problem and its remedy once we do an evaluation, and then we can give you a firm quote.  We do the repair only with your approval so you have no surprises on your bill.

How much is the evaluation?
Evaluation fee is $38.  This fee covers the cost of products and equipment used to find the cause of your air conditioning problem.  The good news is that this $38 is deducted from your account if you go ahead with the repair.

How long does the evaluation take?
An evaluation takes 30 to 60 minutes.  Since we prefer that you leave your vehicle with us, you can book our courtesy car or take advantage of our drop off and pick up service.

How long does the repair take?

This is another common question; however again, we are not able to tell you until we know the cause of the problem.  We do our best to solve your air conditioning problem as quickly as we can.  If you decide to go ahead with repairs, you can book our courtesy car while your vehicle is being repaired, or get us to drop you off and pick you up.

My air conditioning is not cold.   I think there is no gas in it.  Can you fill it up?

In most cases when air conditioning does not run cold, your refrigerant level is low.  The gas has disappeared for a reason so we need to test the system for leaks before we recharge.  Otherwise, the refrigerant will leak out again sooner or later.  We'd be happy to fill it up once we find the cause of the leak.

My car is year 1992 and I don’t want to spend too much money on it.  Can you just top up the refrigerant?

If your vehicle is older than 1992, it may have R12 or ozone depleting refrigerant in the air-conditioning system.  You need to convert your system to the new refrigerant, R134.   It cost you more than $300.  We can provide you with a firmer quote once we have evaluated your vehicle.

Why my air-conditioning does has bad smell?

Bacteria, dirt and odours build up on the evaporator unit over time.  Cleaning with a recommended evaporator cleaner inside the vehicle will normally get rid of the bad odours.  However, stubborn smells may require the removal and cleaning of the evaporator and vents with stronger products.  Mice that have crawled into the evaporator unit and decayed can also create a nasty smell and require intensive cleaning. for more informaion click here

What causes wet carpets inside my car on the passenger's side?

Two things might be causing this problem.  First, it may be blocked or detached drain hose from the evaporator.  If this occurs, the water will build up inside your car to a point where carpets get damp and windows mist.  The second and more serious cause may be from a leaking heater core unit.  You need to get your vehicle checked immediately if you have steam or mist coming out of dash vents, wet carpets with pungent antifreeze smell, or if the engine cooling system is losing coolant.  This may mean that coolant from the engine is leaking out of the heater and if not repaired, the engine can eventually over heat!

How often should my air conditioning be serviced?

Every year before summer, your air conditioning system should be checked and recharged.  This will ensure that your vehicle is prepared for hot weather.  Every two years, the receiver drier or filter should be replaced to protect the refrigerant system from moisture build up.  The receiver drier should also be replaced after major repairs when the system is opened to the atmosphere.
